Classroom 120 Update

We have had an exciting week filled with science journals, book bags, reading, coin review and of course team building.

Students worked to decorate their science-learning log with torn or curt out pictures that they found in Naturalist magazines. If you have any magazines at home that have pictures I could save for this activity next year, please send in donations. The collage directions required that students find: 2 weather pictures, 2 rock pictures, 2 pictures and 2 animal pictures and glue them to the cover of their learning log. We have made two entries in which we have recorded our observations of one set of rocks (which we also dipped in water to explore changes) and a second set which we used to play a behind the wall matching game using descriptive words to prompt our partner to put the same rock forward. We are also keeping a whole class list of properties of rocks, which include color, texture and luster.

We have looked closely at the penny and recorded observations on a class chart. We’ll continue to work through each coin as we gain fluency with counting up sets of coins.

A fire drill, lockdown drill, classroom games of Moose, Mouse, Bear, morning stretch to fun music, lunchtime jokes and stories about school, acceptance and inclusion have rounded out our week. As has our time with our Big Buddies on Friday as we taught them a new math card game and played “peek-a-choo”.

I have enjoyed meeting with some families as conferences have begun. I believe it makes a great difference for the students to experience the united front of adults working together to help them achieve their goals. Thank you for the wonderful participation! I look forward to upcoming goal setting conferences.
