Title of Position Requested: Department Assistant II

Program/Department/Area: Performing Arts (MUSIC)

Number of Hours per Week: 19 hours

Number of Months per Year: 11 months

Brief Abstract: (How does position impact present area status, affect workload reduction, impact students or provide support/services?)

The Performing Arts department and its programs require a very large amount of administrative support. Like Athletics, many of our programs require student travel to competitions. Our programs also require support for publicizing concerts and plays, purchasing supplies and equipment, facilities management, event coordination, and myriad other moving parts not associated with a typical academic program. These needs currently place undue pressure on the DA III and Executive Secretary positions that currently support the dean and three other departments.

Rationale and Applicability to College Strategic Goals: (Substantiate recommendations with data and the guidelines listed in the Budget Decision Criteria document and College Strategic Goals. Does this need fulfill a compliance/mandated position, i.e. State, Federal, regulatory boards, contracts? Does this need address grant partnership commitments and/or critical community needs?)

Filling this need will allow our programs to function more smoothly, making them better able to present high quality performing arts experiences to the community. This, in turn, improves the public image of the college.

Impact on College/District if position is not filled: (Include how having the position or not having the position impacts FTES, services to students.)

If this position is not filled, the dean's support staff will continue to be stretched thin and pressed into overtime situations due to the excessive workload.
