CLASS TITLE:SENIOR WORKERS' COMPENSATION SUPERVISOR - SES

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work supervising professional employees analyzing workers' compensation insurance policies, injured workers' cases, and case management systems; processing workers' compensation fund receipts, invoices and initial claim disbursements/reimbursements for workers' compensation; or assisting with the certification/approval of parties involved with and regulated by the workers' compensation program. The primary duty of the employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class is to spend a major portion of the time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions.

  • Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Plans work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
  • Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met.
  • Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
  • Directs the work of employees to ensure best use of time and resources.
  • Establishes and modifies policies as needed, prepares budget requests and makes supplies and equipment purchase requests.
  • Assists subordinates in explaining and analyzing difficult case files and in interpreting the Florida Workers' Compensation Law.
  • Monitors all reports of the subsection's activities and submits to upper management for review.
  • Corresponds with claimants, employees, employers, insurance carriers, attorneys, physicians and others on matters relating to legal provisions and interpretations of agency policies.
  • Directs, supervises and participates in the collection of workers' compensation data.
  • Investigates claims procedures, denied claims and changes of status of employers' workers' compensation coverage.
  • Assists employers and insurance agents in adjusting claims against workers' compensation.
  • Prepares written reports on assignments and activities.
  • Reviews all reports of field personnel to monitor progress and number of contacts made.
  • Reviews laws and decisions of the agency and common courts affecting operational procedures.
  • Answers legal and technical questions by telephone and personal interview with claimants, employers, physicians, school personnel, attorneys, Judges of Compensation Claims, carriers, and insurance agents and prepares related correspondence as necessary.
  • Serves as a member/leader of cross unit/divisional/agency teams.
  • Performs related work as required.
