CLASS TITLE:RECORDS SPECIALIST - SES

This is administrative work maintaining records or coding of multiple causes of death and/or planning and directing evaluation studies in methodology and records management.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Works to integrate computer and duplicator use in records handling procedures, together with microfilm reduction techniques, and directs the microfilming of records.
  • Establishes and maintains an inventory system for all records in order to determine the frequencies for later evaluation in connection with retention dates and the feasibility of microfilming.
  • Directs and coordinates the maintenance and use of a large bulk storage area set aside for inactive records and develops procedures for orderly disposal of official records.
  • Recommends amendments to, and interprets and administers the provisions of vital statistics laws, regulations established pursuant to the laws, and other pertinent statutes relating to the official recording of births, deaths, stillbirths, marriages, divorces, adoptions and legal changes of name in the State of Florida.
  • Codes multiple causes of death for health planning and research.
  • Provides consultation to local registrars on provisions of the vital statistics laws and regulations.
  • Plans and directs evaluation studies in methodology and records management.
  • Interprets manuals of instructions for registrars, funeral directors, coroners, hospital records librarians, physicians, attorneys, and the general public.
  • Performs related work as required.
