CLASS TITLE:PLANNING AND RESEARCH ECONOMIST

This is work conducting independent economic research and analyses of issues common to businesses, transportation, economic development, tourism, or regulated companies.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

- Develops procedures and coordinates the compilation of applicable economic data and statistics.
- Conducts research into all aspects of the economy's impact on regulated companies or transportation, including state and federal tax policies and federal transportation policies.
- Develops econometric models to determine the effect of projected economic growth on transportation modes or demand projections, pricing alternatives, rate structures, and power plant siting for regulated companies.
- Analyzes micro and macro economic conditions and develops projections of trends which affect regulated companies.
- Evaluates and interprets operating and economic factors affecting regulated companies and consumers.
- Prepares economic and statistical research reports exhibits, and materials for hearings and investigations.
- Conducts research on corporate facilities location requirements and state business investment advantages for use in economic development promotion.
- Analyzes the implications of state, federal and regional policies on job creation, income growth and economic diversification.
- Designs and implements methodologies to estimate economic activity in the state.
- Prepares publications containing economic and statistical information on the state.
- Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of professional experience in economics in an area of systems analysis, economic development, urban and regional planning, computer science, econometric analysis or statistics.
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in economics, business, computer science, statistics, urban and regional planning, or geography can substitute for one year of the required experience.
- A doctorate from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in economics, business, computer science or statistics, urban and regional planning, or geography can substitute for the required experience.
