ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work planning, organizing and supervising the captive wildlife care program in a State Wildlife Park. The primary duty of the employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class is to spend the majority of time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions.

  • Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Plans work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
  • Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met.
  • Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
  • Directs the work of employees to ensure best use of time and resources.
  • Consults with veterinarians and other knowledgeable personnel in the captive wildlife field in planning, developing and implementing programs involving the captive wildlife care program.
  • Inspects wildlife care facilities and exhibits for cleanliness and safety; checks wildlife habitats for security and other health conditions of captive animals; instructs staff in proper housing facilities, specifies proper feeding care of captive animals.
  • Maintains detailed acquisition, disposition, demographic, and reproductive records on all captive wildlife within the program.
  • Plans and coordinates interpretive programs, activities and schedules for and involving captive wildlife.
  • Supervises the wildlife breeding program for the captive wildlife within the program.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Skill in the use of specialized animal capture and animal care equipment.
