CLASS TITLE:HUMAN SERVICES WORKER II

This is charge work in a facility providing care and instruction to clients such as observing patients for significant changes in vital signs and behavior, administering oral medications, feeding, and charting progress; or advanced work training developmentally disabled persons, the mentally ill, and emotionally disturbed in self-care skills.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

- Maintains patient charts, prepares medicine cards, and ensures that all orders are maintained and reflected on the patients' records.
- Assists treatment personnel in carrying out prescribed treatment plans as a member of a rehabilitative treatment team.
- Administers routine medications, bandages, and prescribed treatment under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
- Instructs developmentally disabled and emotionally disturbed persons in bathing, grooming, dressing, and feeding.
- Instructs developmentally disabled and emotionally disturbed persons in minor recreational activities; encourages them to develop social interaction skills and abilities.
- Provides social instruction and personal guidance to developmentally disabled and emotionally disturbed persons having minor behavioral and adjustment problems.
- Oversees and participates in self-care skills such as toilet training, showering, dressing, tooth brushing, nail cutting, and general care of residents of the unit.
- Prepares and utilizes visual aids and related instructional materials in conducting training programs.
- Performs related work as required.

- Knowledge of the methods of instructing and providing care to others.
- Ability to understand and apply the methods and practices used in medical, psychiatric, nursing or child care or in working with developmentally disabled persons.
- Ability to take and monitor vital signs.
- Ability to administer routine treatments under medical supervision.
- Ability to read.
- Ability to pay attention to details.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to carry out instructions for implementing prescribed treatment plans including behavior modification activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- One year of experience working in a medical, psychiatric, nursing or child care setting, or in working with developmentally disabled persons.
- College or vocational/technical training from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for the required experience.
