CLASS TITLE:ENERGY ANALYST

This is work developing and analyzing statewide energy matters in the fields of technology, conservation, planning, marketing or legislation.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Assists in the development and analysis of statewide energy conservation and contingency plans.
  • Analyzes and plans for the implementation of mandatory and voluntary energy conservation measures and evaluates probable economic impact on various industries throughout the state.
  • Develops contingency plans for allocating the supply of energy products and conservation programs, emergencies, and/or disasters.
  • Prepares energy consumption estimates for specified users and projects these estimates based on anticipated quantity of supply.
  • Assists in the development of policy statements and other informational materials to be distributed on a statewide basis regarding conservation programs and legislative actions.
  • Consults and assists in the administration and coordination of technical and diversified energy educational programs at the statewide level.
  • Works with industry groups throughout the state in estimating energy demands for operating essential services and assists these groups in developing alternative plans for continuing essential services during energy emergencies.
  • Provides assistance to state agencies and private groups attempting to achieve energy efficiency in their programs.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge of the various energy sources.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data relating to energy consumption and development.
  • Ability to develop methodologies to conduct energy related studies.
  • Ability to develop policies, standards and regulations for energy management programs.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to apply and understand applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to an energy management program.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience in an energy program, program planning, program research, program evaluation, engineering or a physical or natural science.
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of the required experience.
  • A doctorate from an accredited college or university can substitute for the required experience.
  • Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
