CLASS TITLE: ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN II - F/C

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is advanced, skilled technical work installing, repairing and maintaining electronic equipment. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Repairs and modifies complex electronic equipment or installs and maintains various types of traffic counting, traffic detection, or signal control equipment working from drawings and schematics.
  • Rebuilds and rewires existing traffic recording equipment for conversion from pneumatic tube type operation to the electronic type operation which involves the installation of different circuitry through counters to coordinate with electronic circuitry in detector systems.
  • Prepares engineering drafts of electronic circuitry and design.
  • Operates, repairs, and calibrates a variety of testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, volt meters, pulse generators, audio generators, transistor curve tracers and other electronic testing equipment.
  • Constructs specialized research electronic equipment and instruments.
  • Assists research technicians in conducting research programs involving the use of complex and technical electronic equipment and prepares reports summarizing results of electronic data obtained from experimentation.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Knowledge of the procedures, techniques, equipment and tools used in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment components and design requirements.
  • Skill in using specialized tools and equipment to install, maintain and repair electronic equipment.
  • Ability to identify and repair electronic malfunctions in electronic equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical instructions relating to the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a training course in electronics and two years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment; or
  • Completion of a program of study in electronics from a vocational/technical school or college and one year of experience as described above.
