Class Title:Body Mobilization Technique #1

Stretching Guidelines:

Overall warm up.

Demo Guidelines:

To save time, instructor may want to cover the lecture topics while demo-ing prone techniques. Instructor may show rocking/compression to the backside of the body as good introduction of touch. Emphasize biomechanics used to create BMT movements. Instructor may show variations on arm hold for shoulder mobilization release. Emphasize smoothly coordinated movements, and feeling for resistance in partner’s body.

Practical Guidelines:

Instructors will give touch comparisons at every table, give feedback about body mechanics, draping, and stroke mechanics while students practice the written routine for prone BMT’s.

Lecture Guidelines

Describe how BMT’s combine passive stretching movements, range-of-motion exercises and traction techniques; describe distraction principle (reduces potential invasiveness by sending brain simultaneous impulses), taking moves to point and resistance and no further, proprioceptors and nervous system inputs created by moving body parts, describe proper biomechanics; mention this should be non-fatiguing, can be received while clothed, emphasize working cooperatively with partner, be playful when encountering any client resistance to moves

Discussion Guidelines

Encourage student pairs to give appropriate feedback regarding the comfort and ease of the techniques, the draping, pressure used, etc.Talk about any learning/ struggles that happened as a result of the class.
