CLASS TITLE:ADVANCED REGISTERED NURSE PRACTITIONER - F/C

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is advanced and specialized nursing work, requiring certification in a specialty area, providing primary care and performing certain medical acts within protocols established mutually with a medical, osteopathic, or dental practitioner. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution.

  • Identifies and evaluates illnesses.
  • Establishes behavioral problems diagnoses and makes treatment recommendations.
  • Compiles and evaluates medical histories and physical findings.
  • Takes obstetrical and gynecological history of mothers and developmental history of infants.
  • Performs complete physical of clients.
  • Manages care of patients with selected chronic or acute conditions.
  • Selects and uses diagnostic tests and procedures such as urinalysis, blood counts, x-rays, smears, and cultures.
  • Performs uncomplicated surgical procedures including normal deliveries.
  • Performs complete physical appraisal of patients, appropriate to background and training.
  • Initiates diagnostic laboratory tests and interprets and evaluates laboratory results.
  • Monitors medication and initiates appropriate therapies for certain conditions and alters medications according to variations in a patient's response within established protocols.
  • Fits patients for diaphragms; inserts intrauterine devices; and manages patients on oral contraceptives.
  • Coordinates the implementation and continuity of maternal and infant care through activities such as home and hospital findings, and guidance of patients and families to appropriate community resources.
  • Observes and differentiates between signs and symptoms associated with normal aging and those indicative of pathologic changes.
  • Differentiates between pathologic social behavior and the usual life style of the aged person.
  • Plans and conducts family, patient, and health education by counseling and fostering inclusion of the educational concepts into all phases of the health care provided.
  • Participates in the orientation and the staff development programs for personnel assisting with patient care.
  • Oversees the work activities of ancillary personnel.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in accordance with Florida Statute 464.
