Class Officer Expectations REVISED 9-06-17

Holding a class office is an honor and a responsibility. It requires enthusiasm, active participation, dedication and effective communication with your class members, other officers, our school faculty and your class advisor. Overall, an officer needs a positive attitude, good character and a willingness to work as a team member to represent his/her class. All officers are expected to uphold all Brookfield East rules. The following are additional expectations you are required to meet:

1. Academic standing: You must be a full-time student with credits earning class standing. Although holding office should not prevent you from doing well in class, it will take time and effort. It is important that you be a good student so that you can keep up your academic performance with the added responsibilities and time commitment of your office. You will give a recommendation form to each of your current teachers. They will return them directly to your class advisor. You must receive a favorable recommendation from at least three of your teachers, for your name to appear on the ballot. You will also need the signatures of 25 members of your class supporting you for the position.

2. Meeting Attendance:

Officers will meet biweekly for at least ½ hour with the class advisor, at a time convenient to all officers and the advisor. Any officer who misses two meetings, for reasons other than illness, will be notified by the advisor. Three absences will mean removal from your class office.

3. Event Attendance:

Officers will be planning all of their class events. These are your events. You need to show your support of your events by your attendance. Conflicts with this expectation through your involvement in other school activities (athletics, performing arts, etc) can be worked out between coaches, teachers, and advisors, if the class advisor is informed at least one week prior to the conflict. Be sure that your family is aware of the dates of class events so conflicts can be avoided. Missing even one of the fundraising events of your class is reason for removal from office.

4. School Attendance:

If you miss more than 35 class periods (five school days) during any one quarter, you will be removed from office. School-sponsored events do not count as absences. After one period classified as an unexcused absence, you will be removed from office.

5. School Behavior:

Officers are representatives of their class; therefore they need to demonstrate a positive attitude toward school through their attendance and behavior. Being suspended from school will include removal from office, unless the Associate Principal feels that there are special mitigating circumstances. Officers are also expected to be free from disciplinary referrals. If you have any referrals on your record, you will need the approval of the Associate Principal to run for office. If you receive a referral while in office, we will talk to you about whether it is appropriate for you to continue as an officer. Officers must follow all rules and regulations as printed in your Student Handbook. In addition, officers will continue to meet the qualifications required of all candidates.

5. Removal From Office: Except for the President, whose job will be filled by the Vice-president, all vacated offices will be filled by the runner-up from the spring election. If this is not possible, the position will be filled from the class council. If you are asked to leave office, you may not run for office again next year(s).

------

I, the undersigned, have read the Officer Expectations and am committed to remaining an officer in good standing throughout my term. I will accept my removal from being a class officer without complaint if I do not meet the expectations.
