Class of 2018 Trip to San Francisco

Dates:

Friday March 7-11, 2018

We will fly from Bluegrass airport into San Francisco, California. Our return brings us back to Lexington Sunday morning (flights subject to change). Students must be on time, and have a picture ID.

Activities and Sightseeing in San Francisco

Guided City bus tour, Ferry ride and visit to Alcatraz at night,

Sightseeing tour to Muir Woods; Underwater World Aquarium (Aquarium of the Bay),

Pier 39 with sunning sea lions and 100 one-of-a-kind stores and restaurants,

The Cannery – street performers’ historic buildings, restaurants, shops

Fisherman’s Wharf – sidewalk artists, more shops, old ships

Pier 45- where fishing fleets deliver their catch, the city’s Municipal Pier

Union Square, Chinatown, Telegraph Hill, Coit tower

Ghirardelli Square and Chocolate Co. Golden Gate bridge, Lombard Street,

Unlimited use of Cable Car and public transportation (buses and municipal rail)

Entrance to the Museum of Modern Art, the Palace of Legion of Honor, the Asian Art Museum and the Exploratorium (hands on exhibit)

Visit to the Pacific Ocean optional or additional activities to small ethnic/cultural areas like North Beach (Italian), Grant Avenue (European cafes, vintage shops), Haight-Ashbury district, Japanese Tea Garden and Golden Gate Park.

Opportunities abound for eating in unusual places…and feeling the thrill of a big city steeped in culture and history. Lots of shopping opportunities! Classy Neiman Marcus, Saks, Williams-Sonoma, banana republic, Armani’s and Tiffany’s….as well as lots of quirky specialty shops.

Hotel Accommodations:

Hotel Zephyr – located on Fisherman’s Wharf

COST: Includes airfare, transfers to and from hotel, hotel accommodations, breakfast (1 meal), and admission to city tour, Alcatraz, Muir Woods, museums and a private charter cruise on the bay, city pass.

Payment schedule

$350.00*NON-REFUNDABLE, NON-TRANSFERBLE DEPOSIT IS DUE BY Friday, October 20, 2017, along with a SIGNED PERMISSION SLIP.

$300.00 is due by Tuesday, November 21st, 2017

$300.00 is due by Tuesday, December 12th, 2017

$300.00 is due by Tuesday, January 16th, 2018

Balance is due by Tuesday, February 6th, 2018

(These payments are also non-refundable and non-transferable.)

Cancellation Policy:

If a student cancels the trip after Oct. 20th, they will not be refunded their $350.

If a student cancels the trip between Nov 21st and Dec 12th, they will forfeit $650.

If a student cancels the trip between Dec 12th and Jan 16th, they will forfeit $950.

Any cancellation after January 16th results in the obligation of the entire cost of the trip that must be paid in full by February 6th. If canceling the trip at any point, you must send in a written note, stating that you are canceling. Upon cancelation, a student may not transfer the money collected to another student or give another student their spot.

It is very important that we receive these payments on time so we may pay deposits, buy the airplane tickets and purchase attraction tickets.

Make checks payable to Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and put the number 151 on the memo line. We appreciate any money paid in advance, however students are allowed to make scheduled deposits toward the trip, according to the schedule above. Take all deposits to Mrs. Lubbe in room 407.

What qualifies a student to be a part of this trip?

  1. Must be enrolled at Paul Laurence Dunbar
  2. Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average.
  3. Student can only have 2 office referrals (for simple things like tardies)
  4. Any student that gets into a fight on school grounds, or at a school event, is automatically excluded from the trip.
  5. Any student caught with drugs or alcohol will automatically be excluded from the trip.
  6. Every student planning to go on the trip must also have good attendance at school.

Trip Rules

Please remember that this is a school trip so the same rules apply as if they were in school.

1. No Alcohol2. No Drugs3. No Smoking4. No Sex

5. We expect every student to respect every chaperone and their fellow students.

6. Students are expected to stay in their rooms once they have been told to report to them. There will be room checks morning and evenings. Safety is our number one concern!

7. Use common sense and the buddy system at all times. No one is to be alone! If caught alone you could be restricted to your room in the hotel.

8. Students must be prompt to all events; students may be required to stay at the hotel if they are late.

9. If any student breaks any of the above rules, we will be sending them home immediately at the parents’ expense, also with consequences set by the school administration. This includes being banned from prom as well as not marching at graduation.

10. The Administration has the right to remove a student from participation in the senior trip at any time before or during the trip due to discipline and/or safety concerns of the student or other students attending the senior trip.
