Hunter NDIS and Mental Health Community of Practice Forum

The purpose of the Hunter NDIS and Mental Health Community of Practice Forum is to share and reflect on the experience of people with mental illness/ psychosocial disability, their families and carers and the organisations that provide services to them within the Hunter NDIS trial site. IMPORTANT NOTE:This COP Forum consultation will be followed by the NSW Ombudsman’s Office focus group to be held separately with a consumer group and carer group between 2:00 and 4:00 PM at RichmondPRA on King. Mindfulness for Male Carers – TalkLink

Are you a male carer for someone witha disability, mental illness, chronic condition, drug oralcohol dependency, terminal illness or who is frail?Mindfulness: Talk-Link is a six-week therapeutic group program for adult male carers in NSW AND IS Facilitated over the telephone by a professional counsellor. TheState Scope of Clinical Practice Unit(SSoCPU) works on behalf of all NSW Health Local Health Districts and Specialty Networks and is hosted by The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network. CBT for Psychosis Online Course
The course starts by examining the nature of psychosis and CBT, providing a foundation for understanding how CBT can be helpful. Then the basic style of CBT for psychosis is introduced, followed by an introduction to two of the most important techniques. Finally, applications of CBT are explored for some of the main problem areas, such as hearing distressing voices, paranoia, delusional beliefs, disorganization, and negative symptoms. Newstart becomes de facto disability pension for 25% of claimants
Changes made by Labor in eligibility criteria in 2011 has meant tens of thousands of people disqualified for DSP are now on Newstart, at $341 a fortnight less.So many people are being disqualified from the disability support pension (DSP) that a quarter of people on Newstart have some type of disability.Click here to view the full article.
