Lesson Plan Outline

Hook/Introduction
(5-10 minutes) / Question of the Day: What is your favorite meal to eat? Describe it.
Example: My favorite meal to eat is chicken pot pie. It has chicken breast, vegetables, soup, and a crust on top. You cook it in the oven for one hour and eat it when it is hot.
Structure: My favorite meal to eat is ______(name) because ______. It has ______(kind of food).
Lesson
(15 minutes) / After collecting QOD, start the PPT. T goes through first couple of slides explaining what we will do today.
At the start of “History of Thanksgiving”, pick on students popcorn style to read the slides aloud. After reading, explain the slide to students. Include extra history/information not included on the slides as necessary.
Repeat this until “We eat many things…” slide. At this slide, T introduces typical food eaten during Thanksgiving meals. Students will oohhh and ahhh at the sight of the delicious food.
Go through the food slides. Afterward, talk about the Thanksgiving tradition of watching football. Explain the slides and talk about some of the rules.
Guided/Independent Practice
(15-20 minutes) / Play the Amazing Football Game!
Thanksgiving and football-related trivia that was discussed during today’s lesson.
Split the class into two teams (left/right, front/back, whatever). Take out the Hillary Football Helmet game pieces. Draw a football field on the board, or pull up a Google image of a football field. Place the game pieces at opposite end zones. One team has the blue Hillary Helmet and the other team has the red Hillary helmet. Explain that in football, teams attack each other like soccer, going opposite directions.
Start the trivia game. T can call on students popcorn style or go in a specific order. I usually do popcorn style to keep all kids on edge. Alternate between teams asking them questions.
When a team gets a question right, let them choose a card from the “Gains” card deck (see attached card cutouts). When a team answers a question wrong, let them choose from the “Penalties” card deck. Advance/Penalize the teams as the cards indicate. Move the helmets back and forth on the football field (that was drawn or pulled up on Google).
Explain to students that when one team reaches the other team’s end zone, they earn a touchdown, which is seven points. The team with the most touchdowns at the end of the game wins Hillary Won!
Conclusion/Check for Understanding
(5 minutes) / Debrief the questions students may have about Thanksgiving, food, or football.
Remind students about ordering chicken pot pie.
