COURSE DESCRIPTION:

2006-2008 Catalog B Southern University and A&MCollege: SPAN 100 B Elementary Spanish I (Credit, 3 hours).

Catalogue Description: Introduction to elementary structures in the Spanish language. Emphasis on listening comprehension, pronunciation, basic vocabulary and grammar structures necessary for developing oral proficiency skills.

The Department offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Spanish; it also offers German , Chinese, Arabic and African languages.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

AIf a student=s major requires six or more hours of language, these hours must be taken in the SAME language, otherwise the student will not receive degree credit for those foreign language courses (Exceptions: Chinese 100/101)@(Southern University and A&M College, 2004-2006 Catalog, page 87). Furthermore, students are strongly encouraged to fulfill their foreign language requirement without skipping a semester to avoid loss of knowledge and additional costs in purchasing access codes and/or other class materials.

CREDIT EXAMINATION:

Students may earn credit (maximum six semester hours) for beginning foreign language classes (100 level), by passing credit examinations. Students with two or more years of high school credit and native speakers should consult the department chairperson prior to registration for classes they would like to exempt. Native speakers cannot receive credit for 100 level courses.

All Spanish 100 Students are required to complete a set of lab assignments given by their instructor. These assignments once completed on time and satisfactorily are worth 10% of your total course grade. Your Instructor will explain and discuss the LAB in class and provide you with your Course Lab Code.

ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION POLICY: Attendance & participation in this course is MANDATORY. You are allowed two (2) unexcused absences. After that, every time you are absent, YOUR FINAL GRADE IN THE COURSE WILL BE LOWERED BY 3 POINTS PER ABSENCE.
