Minutes

Meeting of September 18, 2016

A lunch was not planned prior to today’s meeting.

A closed meeting of Past Excellent Chiefs of Clanna Ruid Ruide Council No. 58 Knight Masons was opened at 1:15 PM at Siminoff Lodge Room at the Union City Masonic Home by Excellent Chief Jordan Yelinekfor the initiation of the expected new Excellent Chief. The Officer positions are shown below. One guest, Cousin Morgan, was also in attendance.

Clanna Ruid Ruide Council No. 58 Knight Masons was then opened at 1:40 p.m. at Siminoff Lodge Room at the Union City Masonic Home by Excellent Chief Jordan Yelinek. The Officer positions filled are shown below.

The Council was then at 1:50 PM called to Refreshment until our regular meeting time of 2:00 PM, or until all of our Officers, members, and candidates had arrived.

The Council was then called to Labor at 2:10 PM.

Candidates present (3): Crossley, McGovert III, and Ramos.

The pledge allegiance to the U.S.A. flag was given.

The Scribe had before the meeting emailed out the agenda of the meeting with the expected degree cast positions to all of the members. It was noted that it was great that only one cast member had to reply with his regrets due to an emergency situation.

The Knight of the Sword degree was then performed using candidate Ramos as our exemplar. Candidate Chuck Gretch could not be found. The cast positions are listed below. Knighting was performed on each candidate. Each candidate was given a ritual book, the history of Knight Masons book, a pin, and only our Cousin Ramos was given a jewel. Additional membership jewels were approved to be ordered.

Our EC then resumed Work on the Council at 2:30 PM and conducted the business portion of the meeting.

The minutes of the March 20, 2016 council meeting were announced as they had been available on our website since last March. The minutes were approved as published.

The Scribe noted that he had received the formal Knight Mason certificates and cards for the Cousins that were initiated last year. These were handed out to those present. The remainder will be mailed to each Cousin.

The Treasurer’s Report was given. We have about $1,200.00 in our account. All members who owe dues, or who owe for past lunch payments, were previously notified.

Our EC announced that Cousin Fentum has created a great York Rite website for the bodies at Union City, including our Council, which is at:

The Scribe will attempt to move our existing website material onto this new website. Our old and current website now exists on the Scribe’s personal website, at

Cousin Edgar noted that it turned out to be very expensive to obtain the Knight Mason items that he was trying to order from overseas, and he concluded by saying that everyone should just go ahead and individually order their own items.

It was announced that our guest, Cousin Russ Morgan, the long-time Scribe of KM Council No. 39, had been appointed the new Grand Superintendent of Knight Masons in Northern California! Cousin Russ had many things to share and was glad to be supporting our Officers and Council!

It was also noted that our Council does not any longer purchase the Knight Mason aprons and sashes for our candidates, in order to reduce our initiation fee. Such items can be purchased by each member on theirown from any fraternal; supply companies, including Los Angeles Fraternal Supply Company. All officers are expected to have their own aprons, sashes, and swords.

Proposals are now being accepted for new members up until our next meeting. Cousin Aaron proposed Chris Kiner in Salinas, and gave the Scribe his data information.

Cousin Hall made an announcement concerning October 7 and asked that -???

Cousin Ramsey made an announcement concerning the York Rite College and said that - they are meeting on October 8th at 11:00 AM at the San Jose Masonic Center. He also stated that anyone interested in learning about the College could talk to him afterwards.

Elections were then held for the offices of Excellent Chief, Senior General, Junior General, Scribe, Treasurer, and the remaining Appointed Officers. In all cases, only one name was proposed, and all ballots were unanimous. The new Officers are listed below. Cousin Ramsey was then installed in his position as our new Excellent Chief. He announced that as to get off to a great start, that he had brought refreshments including wine and cheese for the Cousins after the meeting!

Our Outgoing EC then summarized the meeting and thanked the Officers for their support and encouragement during his year. He also reminded the members that we expect to confer both the Knight of the East - and - the Knight of the East and West Degrees at our next meeting. The most recent cast lists for those degrees are listed below.

Cousin Bailey then announced that it had been the usual custom of our particular Council to hold our Formal PRS Debates once a year or so, that we had not done that in a many years, and “that is was bloody well time that we have some more soon”, as we do have our own special rules, which have been blessed as “Masonically Legal”, and everyone has always had a great and fun time during these debates! Our outgoing EC said that would be great – justnot today.

The Council was then closed in Due Form by our new Officers at 3:05 PM.

Our next meeting will therefore be on Sunday March 19 beginning at 2:00 PM at the Siminoff Lodge. We do expect to conferboth the Knight of the East and the Knight of the East and West Degrees at our next meeting – as well as hopefully have a PRS Debate.

The Council was then adjourned at 3:50 PM.

Many Cousins then gathered outside of the Lodge Room for refreshments as generously provided by our newly installedEC.

Fraternally,
