CKS PE Middle School Expectations

The first and last SIX minutes of class will be used for dressing out. If a student is beyond SIX minutes late, they will lose ONE daily point and is considered tardy. If a student does not bring clothes to dress out THREE PE days in a row, they will receive a detention on top of minus ONE point for each day not dressed out.

To receive points for dressing out, students must be properly and appropriately dressed in athletic clothing, which will include the following FROM HOME:

·  T-shirt (NO cutoffs or tank tops of any kind unless undershirt is worn)

·  Appropriate length athletic shorts or pants

·  Socks

·  Non-marking outsole shoes (NO boots, flip flops, Crocs, open-toe shoes, etc.)

·  Weather-appropriate apparel is recommended in the event that we go outside

·  Must be a different set of clothes than what the student wore to school

Daily points are “all-or-nothing” for each category and are as follows:

Dress code: 1

Participation: 1

Effort: 1

Attitude: 1

------

Total: 4 pts

After entering the gym, students will complete the task given on the board until all students are present (6 minutes). As a class, the students will then complete a brief skill or health related fitness activity circuit explained by the teacher.

If a student does not bring proper PE clothes, as stated above, he/she may borrow from the “PE Community” box to supplement whatever clothing not in dress code. Being in dress code is required unless a parent/doctor’s note is received stating a student must abstain from PE activities.

If a student is to not participate in PE for various reasons, and has supplied a note, the student will have to complete an article review sheet as a make-up assignment. A completed article review sheet is required to earn the daily points EACH DAY. The article can be from a magazine or reliable news/sports source that is relevant to physical activity, health, or nutrition. An article review sheet will also make up for lost points during absences. Until an article review is completed, the student will have a “zero” for the day.

Lastly, all 3rd-8th Grade students will complete a Fitness Gram test each trimester, composed of muscle flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, muscle endurance, and muscle strength components. There will be a baseline test at the start of the school year, followed by a test at the end of each trimester to assess growth. The results of each testing will also have a weight of 40% of the final trimester grade.
