c. Frequently, I will give a “pop” quiz so students are encouraged to study their notes each night. A “pop” quiz will be graded on an informal basis
d. Homework will be graded on an informal basis and be weighted on how much work was necessary to complete the assignment.
e. Projects will be graded on a formal basis.
f. TESTING POLICY—the district has changed the testing policy. Please carefully read the below procedure.
i. If a student receives an 84% or below on a test they may request a retest with the following requirements:
1. The student must print the “Retest Request” form found on Mr. George’s WIKI and must follow all the directions. If ANY step is not followed, the student will NOT be able to retest and the initial grade will become permanent
2. Student must attend two (2) tutoring sessions within 10 school days of receiving his or her test score back. These sessions will be outside of school time. Mr. George will set the date of the retest. All students requesting a retest MUST take the test on the same date.
3. The test will be a writing assessment (short answer and essay) that is different from the initial test.
4. The retest score will replace the previous test score with a maximum of 84%.
g. Homework Policy
i. Students will receive a zero for assignment they made no effort on or which is missing on the date it was due.
ii. If a student is missing an assignment due to an absence, the student must initiate contact with the teacher within 10 days to arrange a schedule for making up work. After 10 days, the work will be considered late.
iii. Late work: Missing work will receive a penalty of 10% per day with a maximum penalty of 50% due to being received late.
II. Required Tools: 1” to 2” Three Ring Binder, three hole punch (very inexpensive one), 5-8 dividers, loose leaf paper
Students shall be prepared for every class. To be considered prepared for class; a student must have their notebook, a writing utensil, assigned book (s) and all assigned homework completed. If a student is unprepared for class, they will be unable to participate in class. Therefore, their overall grade will suffer. An assignment will only earn full credit if it is completed on the date it is due. Half credit will be given if the assignment is turned in by the end of the quarter. If you miss a test or quiz, you have 10 days to make up the test or quiz. On the 11th day, I will put it in front of you to take during class.
Class attendance and participation is a necessity in Sociology. If a student is frequently absent from class and/or does not participate while in class, their grade will suffer. Class participation shall be a portion of their overall grade at the end of the term.
All rules outlined in the Ardrey Kell Student handbook shall be followed while the student is in class. Any infraction of the handbook shall be dealt with in the appropriate manner as stated in the handbook.
Most importantly, my room shall be a safe classroom for all students and staff members. Students shall treat their classmates and Mr. George with respect and courtesy. In turn, you shall receive the same treatment from Mr. George.
