Dear Resident
CITYLINK TULLA WIDENING: UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES
The CityLink Tulla Widening project involves adding lanes and other measures to improve the flow of traffic across the 24 kilometre section of freeway from the CityLink tunnels to Melbourne Airport. The project will also provide travel time savings per trip between Melbourne Airport and the West Gate Freeway during peak periods.
Once completed, the project will deliver a safer, more reliable freeway. Generally, an additional lane is being added in each direction, as well as upgrades at key interchanges including Bell Street, Mount Alexander/Flemington Road and on the Bolte Bridge to West Gate Freeway entry ramp.
Leighton Contractors is the construction contractor for the Bulla Road to Power Street section of the project. We would like to advise you of what to expect in your area from our construction works over the coming months.
Where we will be
To construct the new Bell Street bridge we will be required to work on CityLink land adjacent to Greenbank Crescent. There will also be works taking place on CityLink within the existing road corridor.
When works will occur
Work hours for construction will be 7am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. On occasions we may need to work outside of these times to ensure public and worker safety. We will notify you of any works outside of these hours that may impact you.
We expect to complete construction of the bridge by the end of 2017 and will be working in the area throughout this period. We will continue to give you advanced notice of works that may impact you.
What we are doing
Over the past few weeks we have been preparing the freeway for construction works to commence, by installing concrete safety barriersto create safe work areas for our crew, changing line marking and reducing the speed limit on the freeway. You may have also noticed that we have been trimming and clearing vegetation along the roadcorridor to prepare the site for works.
We will be undertaking further preparation works in your area over the coming months, including:
•Establishing temporary access to our work sites
•Site preparation works for the construction of the new Bell Street bridge including vegetation trimming and clearing, embankment stabilisation works and ground stabilisation
•Utility works such as investigation, relocation/protection and installation of temporary services
•Upgrading drainage services
•Removing some of the existing concrete barriers on CityLink that are no longer required
•Upgrading protection measures on existing piers and overhead signage structures
We will then start construction works to widen the road pavement and bridgesas well as start to build the new Bell Street bridge.
What to expect
Over the coming months you can expect the following activities:
•Changed traffic conditions on CityLink and local roads to allow for safe work areas
•No parking on the eastern side of Greenbank Crescent (residents will receive a separate notification letter in advance outlining dates and times)
•Footpath closure on the eastern side of Strathmore Secondary College (detour in place)
•Minor changes to the Moonee Ponds Creek trail under Pascoe Vale Road outbound exit ramp to enable construction works for the new Bell Street bridge
•Small work crews in various locations
•Construction works for the new Bell Street bridge near Greenbank Crescent
•Construction works for the new Bell Street bridge next to and underneath the Pascoe Vale Road exit ramp
•Construction works on CityLink
•Some noise associated with construction works including the removal of existing barriers on CityLink if demolition is required
•Some construction vehicles using local roads to access our work sites where we cannot safely access from within the corridor
•During peak construction periods we may require additional workers who may need to use on-street parking in local streets near the site facilities
We are committed to keeping residents informed and minimising the inconvenience during construction, while keeping the community and our workers safe at all times. Managing and protecting the environment is also important to us and we are working in conjunction with local and state environmental laws to ensure the natural ecosystem is not affected by works.
The project team will be hosting a pop up information stall in your area over the coming weeks. Keep an eye out for your invitation in the mailbox. You will have the opportunity to have a coffee with us, find out more about the project and ask any questions you may have.
