Code enforcement officer

The Municipality of Skagway is accepting applications for the position of Code Enforcement Officer at the Police Department. This is a regularfull-time position

WAGE RANGE:Grade 13, Step One-Entry level wage - $21.23 per hour. This position is eligible for Municipal benefits.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Extensive knowledge of:

State, Federal, and local laws and ordinances.

Ability to think clearly and quickly in emergency situations; observe and accurately record events and effectively adopt a course of action.

Work irregular hours; tactfully handle sensitive or dangerous situations; maintain the personal presence and appearance to act effectively within the department and community.

Skilled in:

Make effective oral and written presentations.

Dealing effectively with the general public and representatives from other law enforcement agencies, Municipality departments, state, and federal governments, and private agencies in coordinating activities and resolving problems.

Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, Municipality officials, community organizations, and the general public.

Maintaining a high level of discipline and morale.

DUTIES:

Receives complaints, investigates, makes site visits, and researches records. Determines nature of complaints and determines the appropriate department to handle the complaint or passes complaints onto appropriate Departments; coordinates the enforcement actions within the Municipality of Skagway.

Investigates alleged code violations, perform inspections, conduct interviews, document and photograph evidence, contact/notify responsible parties and remediate violations, issue citations and represent the MOS in administrative proceedings to correct violations, perform all follow-up investigations needed to ensure remedial action.

Ensure compliance with MOS codes and ordinances, which pertain to such areas as nuisances, zoning, building codes, inoperable vehicles, substandard housing, dangerous buildings, Historical District, health and safety and other related property maintenance requirements.

Develops, monitors, and updates the coordination processes with respect to boiler plate letters, compliance letters,Running computer NCIC and APSIN checks for officers in the field via the radio and telephone

Prepares reports of investigations, activities, conditions dangerous to the public and unusual circumstances.

Attending training to ensure competency.

Performs animal control functions as necessary.
