Position Title: Seasonal Maintenance

Division/Department: Marina & Mowing

Immediate Supervisor: Public Works Operations Supervisor

Schedule: Seasonal 8:00 A.M. 4:00 P.M., Monday-Friday

Job Summary:

Under the general guidance and direction of the director of public works, employee preforms a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of city parks, facilities, green spaces, and other city owned and individual properties currently on the mowing program.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

a. Operates various types of light equipment (i.e., mowers, tractors), hand tools and power tools in the maintenance of parks, city owned property, and individually owned property on the mowing program, mows lots and green areas with riding lawnmower, push mower or tractor; operates weed eater for extended periods of time, uses shovels, picks, clippers, hand pruner, chain saw and wrenches to perform duties such as edging, trimming trees and shrubs, planting trees, shrubs and flowers, repair and maintenance of equipment and playground equipment and installing playground equipment in a safe manner.

b. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

a. Good knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials and equipment used in park, swimming pool and playground maintenance.

e. Ability to operate light equipment, hand tools and power tools such as lawnmower, weed eater, tractor, saws, wrenches, shovels and post hole digger.

Physical Requirements:

a. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time to perform park maintenance duties.

b. Ability to climb heights up to 30 feet on ladders, stairs and in trees.

c. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in the operation of equipment.

d. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel and twist while performing park maintenance duties.

e. Ability to twist body and fingers when performing duties such as shoveling and painting.

f. Ability to balance objects, lift, push and pull equipment or materials weighing up to 100 lbs.

g. Ability to operate foot controls on vehicles.

h. Ability to speak clearly in the operation of telephone, two-way radio and face to face situations in emergency and non-emergency situations.

Environmental Conditions:

a. Work is performed outdoors and is subject to mechanical, chemical and electrical hazards and bodily injury.

b. Work may be subject to dirt, dust, loud noises, continuous noises, fumes, odors, vibration, heights and extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, wetness and humidity.

c. Work may be subject to time pressures, emergency situations, noisy/distracting environment, working closely with others as part of a team, working alone 50% or more of the time, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, frequent changes to tasks and dealing with irate people.

Education, Certification and Experience Requirements:

b. Must have valid Texas Drivers’ License and driving record must meet or surpass guidelines as set forth by the City of Runaway Bay.
