Holcim (US) Inc.

Jason Kawa from the Contractors Association of Eastern Pennsylvania recently visited Associate Member Holcim (US) Inc., located in Camden NJ to partake in a site tour and safety evaluation. Holcim produces cement products from slag, which is a by-product of steel manufacturing. The process begins when the raw materials are unloaded from barges on the Delaware River and transported through a series of conveyors and processed into the finished cement that we use in construction. The final product is stored in large silos where trucks pull under to be filled. Much of the process is automated and controlled through a central operating center in the office.

Holcim has an excellent safety program in place under the direction of John Krihwan. The program utilizes many safety engineering tools such as machine guarding and hazard removal. Personal Protective Equipment in the forms of hard-hats, eye protection, and steel-toed shoes are required at all times when working onsite, and fall protection is required when working at elevations without guardrails. For more information on Holcim Inc., you may call their offices at (856) 964-2555.
