CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons using the City of Kennewick’s pool facility by preventing and responding to emergencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1.  Maintain surveillance and supervision of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.

2.  Observe and enforce rules and regulations.

3.  Familiarize self with Emergency Action Plan;

·  In water rescue skills

·  First Aid skills

·  CPR/AED skills

4.  Recognize, minimize or eliminate dangers or hazards.

5.  Educate facility users about safety.

6.  Present a professional appearance and use City of Kennewick issue clothing and equipment appropriately.

7.  Exhibit a professional and helpful attitude to patrons.

8.  Complete required paperwork in a timely manner.

9.  Work cooperatively with other staff members.

·  Be punctual and prepared for shift

·  Swim 100 yards prior to each shift

·  Assist in putting out or taking down equipment and pool covers

·  Maintain training by participating in in-service training and other training, meetings or education that may be deemed necessary.

10.  Preform pool maintenance as needed, including but not limited to routine, daily cleaning of locker areas; decks and other facility areas as needed; pool vacuuming, hosing and disinfecting decks as required.

11.  Preform other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·  Valid Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid certifications from one of the following certifying agencies:

o  The American Red Cross

o  YMCA

o  Lifesaving Society

o  Ellis & Associates

o  Advanced Lifeguard Training International

o  Starguard (Starfish Aquatics Institute)

·  Minimum 15 years of age or older
