CITROËN’S C4 ROBOT MOVES INTO THE GEARBOX!
The Citroën C4 Robot will soon not be restricted to the French car maker’s award winning advertising, with the C4 HDi Turbo Diesel gaining an all-new robotized six speed manual gearbox.
Citroën have released the first details of the new gearbox, which is due to arrive in Australia in early 2007 as an option on the existing Citroën C4 HDi, and it promises to boost fuel economy by three to five per cent, delivering an average of 4.5 litres per 100 km, and drop carbon dioxide emissions to just 120 grams per kilometer.
These figures are compared to the manual Citroën C4 HDi. The new gearbox endows the C4 will all abilities of an automatic, with none of the performance, economy or environmental drawbacks. Additionally, the driver has the ability shift gears via paddles on the steering wheel, in which case the new gearbox will change gears in as little as 0.8 seconds, or let the robot do all the work, operating both clutch and gear shifting duties.
In self shifting mode, the new gearbox is full adaptive, modifying its programme and shift pattens to match the driver’s requirements, while the ESP programme is equipped with Hill Holder to ensure smooth take-off on hills and special emphasis has been made to the programme to ensure rapid and smooth engagement and use of reverse gear.
The driver can also manually select sport mode, in which case gear changing will take place in as little as 0.4 seconds, considerably quicker than any driver could achieve with manual activation of the clutch and gear shift.
Full details, specifications and Australian pricing for the robotized manual gearbox for the Citroën C4 HDi will be announced when it goes on sale in early 2007.
