CITLA Advisory Board Meeting Minutes

  1. Attending: Debbie Notarianni-Girard, Cathy Poirier, Candace Grist, Maryhelen MacInnes, Dina Levitre, Jeanne Mullaney
  2. Welcome to new members: Rachel Rogers, Maryhelen MacInnes, Cindy Liu, Cathy Poirier, and Dina Levitre
  3. Board Membership
  4. Suggestion to include adjuncts and others who are not full-time faculty but limit so that no more than 1/6 of the Board can be occupied by non-tenure stream faculty
  5. More organic system than staggered terms recommended
  6. Committee system suggested for folks who are interested in contributing but can’t attend meetings
  7. CITLA Award Candace Gristsimplified the award nomination process and publicity will go out in next CRIER
  8. Fall 2014 events overview
  9. Printing order-CITLA one-pager for new faculty report went to all new faculty full and adjunct
  10. Teaching Tips feedback: Cecile Roberti
  11. Fall book clubs—recruited new book club discussion leaders so as not to always ask the same folks to volunteer their time

  13. Brown Bag on service learning--focus on experiential learningthis year
  14. Tonia Fay and HMNS faculty will offer informal workshops on service-learning on October 23 and October 30
  15. FLC on Giving and Getting Feedback on Student Work-Wendy Aronoff—5 members

  17. NEA Advocate7 Ways of Learning Leslie Kilgore suggested that we mightorganize a weekly brown bag series (maybe Fridays 2-3) to keep momentum. Could a certificate be offered to those who attend all sessions to entice adjuncts and all pre-tenurefaculty?

  19. Carie Hertzberg - Service Learning/Community Engagement
  20. Members thought that having Carie Hertzberg present on Service-Learning in the morning and another speaker on undergraduate research in the afternoon would be good because it gives two options for incorporating experiential learning in the classroom.

  29. Add a line that specifically states “This event is open to all CCRI instructors.”
  30. Ruth Sullivan to publicize at Department Chairs’ Council and remind chairs to please forward CITLA notices to all faculty
  31. Jeanne will verify that all department chairs are on the CITLA list.
