We are very much looking forward to welcoming delegates to what we hope will be not only an intellectually stimulating, but also highly enjoyable conference. The ICOHTEC Programme Committee is responsible for scholarly aspects of the conference and will be selecting papers from those proposed. Please submit your proposals by 31 January 2011 using the instructions available at the following link:

The venues

The conference will be held at the University of Glasgow.Founded in 1451, GlasgowUniversity is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. The University moved to the Gilmorehill campus, its current location in the city’s bustling and easily accessible West End, in 1870. All scholarly sessions, plenary sessions, and coffee and lunch breaks will take place in one of two buildings located across the street from one another, within approximately five minutes walking distance from the nearest underground station.

Excursions

Scotland was one of the earliest regions in the world to industrialise, and Clydeside, of which Glasgow forms an important part, was one of the most important industrial and technological powerhouses in the world throughout the 19th and well into the 20th century. A variety of excursions are being planned to enable delegates to become familiar some of this heritage. Excursions and activities being arranged include a number of venues in Glasgow itself, for instance a visit to the new TransportMuseum, which will be completed in spring 2011, or to the HunterianMuseum’s instruments collection. Further afield, there will be opportunities to visit the site of Robert Owen’s famous experiment in industrial and social engineering at New Lanark, and the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Details on the events, dates and times, and associated costs will be available when registration goes live in approximately mid-February 2011.
