Dear Colleague,

Manchester City Council will be hosting a learning event at the Town Hall on Thursday 16th of October to mark Black History Month. As we approach the centenary of World War 1, the theme of the event is looking at some of the contribution BME people have made as part of the war effort.

The event is aimed at Key Stage 3 pupils and will include an interactive assembly facilitated by the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Trust looking at a number of inspirational black figures who contributed to World War 1.

There will also be video footage of troops from the empire who fought in the first World War and an explanation of their role.

The event will conclude with a performance produced by the People’s History Museum which will look at the true story of Gabrielle coming to the UK from the Caribbean in the 1950’s following the end of the two world wars. Both sessions are linked to key stage 3 of the national curriculum.

The event will take place on:

Date: Thursday, 16 October 2014

Venue: Banqueting Room, Manchester Town Hall

Time: 10am - 11.45pm

(Please note that there will be a 15 minute break for refreshments)
