Final Presentation for Government

Your INDIVIDUAL final presentation will consist of the following:

Select a topic that is socially and/or politically controversial/timely and complete a 5-7 minute informative and/or persuasive speech discussing this issue.

Alternatively, you may select a key Supreme Court case and complete an informative/persuasive presentation on the case.

You should have information and facts within your presentation (at least five cited references) which help to bolster the effectiveness of your speech. You should also create and use a Google Slides/PowerPoint presentation. Failure to do so will result in a significant penalty to your score.

You will be graded on the following:

The Oral Presentation will be broken down into these components:

Ideas and Content--How is the content of your speech? Is your information accurate? Did you cite credible sources in your presentation? Do the citations strengthen your argument? (100 points possible)

Organization--How organized is your speech? Is their a discernable introduction, body, and conclusion? Does it flow smoothly? (30 points possible)

Language--What type of language do you use to convey your speech? Did you avoid excessive slang/colloquialisms? (30 points possible)

Delivery--How confident/credible is your delivery? Did you maintain eye contact during your presentation? (50 points possible)

You will also include:

Typed Outline (40 points possible)—Utilize the templates on my website for this

Google Slides/PowerPoint (50 points possible)

There is a total of 300 class points possible for this assignment.

This is approximately 10-15% of your SEMESTER GRADE Failure to complete this assignment adequately will result in a significant penalty to your grade!

STUDENTS WHO ARE DISRUPTIVE/NON-ATTENTIVE DURING OTHER SPEECHES OR WASTE CLASS PREP TIME WILL LOSE SIGNIFICANT POINTS FROM THEIR SCORE AND WILL FACE DISCIPLENARY ACTION.

May 23 Guidelines for presentation given out in class.

May 23-June 5 Preparation time for presentation(this will include several periods in the computer lab—you will also need to work on your presentation outside of class)

June 6-9 Presentations will be made to the class. (Seniors MUST present on or prior to

June 6 or 7 in order to present prior to their last day of attendance)

Please Note: Failure to present your speech when called upon will result in a significant reduction to your grade. If you are absent the day you are to give a speech, you need to be prepared to present the NEXT school day you are present. You will only be able to make up your speech if your absence is EXCUSED.

AGAIN, SENIORS MUST PRESENT ON OR PRIOR TO JUNE 7th.

If you feel that you will need additional time to prepare—you may come early to school. I am here by 7:40 am daily. I am also here after school until at least 3:30 pm

All topics will need to be approved by me. You must have a topic decided upon by no later than Tuesday, May 30.
