Channing Church Religious Education Program

Becky Paul, Director of Religious Education

It is the mission of this religious education program to

nurture and minister to the children and youth of our church community by:

Actively engaging in the process of forming spiritual values and beliefs;

Building an intergenerational church family where we all care for and nurture one another.

Celebrating and affirming the Principles and Purposes of Unitarian Universalism.

In just a few short weeks we will be gathering to reconnect with the members of our church community once again. I hope you have all taken the well earned time of summer to recover, relax and renew. Our RE Committee and volunteer teachers have been busy preparing for classes to begin, and we’re all looking forward to a fabulous year together!

This year’s volunteer teachers are:

Margaret Holmes Katie Tierney Marc Tierney

Paul Anderson Danette Carter Cheryl Gardner

Also, please welcome Janine Anderson in working with Danny Howland as Youth Group Advisors this year. I’m sure you’ll all join me in expressing our appreciation and gratitude to all our volunteers for sharing their time and talents with our children and our church. We’ve got a great team!!

Janine and I will be attending the Youth Advisors Gathering in Sharon, MA on Monday, August 30 from 6:00-8:30pm. This will be a great chance to meet others in the district, get oriented, energized, and share ideas.There will also be conversation about CON culture and youth, specific to our district. There is no charge for this gathering anda simple mealwill be served. I encourage anyone who may be interested in working with our youth this year to attend. Please contact me at to register.

RE Registration: Chalice Children – Ages 5-8

Youth Group – Ages 14-17

Our program is available to children and youth from grades pre-K - 12. All children must be registered annually. Open enrollment will be held on Sunday, September 12th, following the Water Communion service. To do so, simply fill out and return a registration form. New families are welcome at anytime. Continuity is an important ingredient in a positive church experience, therefore regular attendance is encouraged and appreciated.

Children will start in Church at 10:00am with their families for the first part of the service and then proceed to their classes at approximately 10:20am, or children will start their morning in their classrooms at 10:00am. A schedule will be posted. In order to maintain a safe environment for our precious children, parents are responsible for picking up their children from classes by 11:15am

Volunteer Opportunities

The most important ingredient of any program is the love and support of many people. A curriculum is only as good as the people who bring it to life. The cooperation and participation of all parents is essential to make our program happen. There are many opportunities throughout the year to volunteer your help to support our children in their spiritual growth. Come and grow along with our young people. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll learn and how much fun it can be! Please see the Director of Religious Education for more information. If you are interested in volunteering as a youth group advisor, please contact Janine Anderson at
