Howdy!

The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Executive Staff is very excited about your interest in ASB!

Our mission: to move enthusiastic, giving students from being heartfelt volunteers toward becoming active, life-long citizens and leaders for social change, committed to social justice.

To realize this goal, we pair our student leaders with a single issue and provide them with the leadership and logistical training needed to organize service trips in a community that is living with that particular social problem.

You can be involved by becoming a Member!

We are looking for TAMU students who value ASB’s principles of social awareness and active citizenship and wish to pass these values on to others through leadership and example. This is an awesome and unique opportunity to gain leadership and volunteer experience!!

To qualify, you must be in good judicial standing with the University, have and maintain a GPR of at least 2.0 and be enrolled at least half-time, 6 hours.

Members will be expected to attend our service events, social events, meetings (to be held bi-weekly on Mondays at 5:30) and by helping advertise. Members will also be asked by pay $10in dues at the beginning of the Spring Semester which will include a T-shirt.

Site leaders also receive a discounted trip rate which covers housing, food, and transportation for the entire week of Spring Break. The Site leader application is available online at asb.tamu.edu.

Peaceable Kingdom @ Killeen, Texas-$293.59

Students interested in learning more about children with special needs will be able to volunteer at Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children. Volunteers will be helping Peaceable Kingdom with their Environmental Education Program by running various activities with the children as well as helping with ongoing projects.

Living, Lands & Water @ Memphis, Tennessee-$286.65

Students interested in water conservation and environmental awareness will be able to volunteer with Living, Lands & Water where they will explore large parts of the Mississippi River cleaning up the area along the way and learning about the importance of maintaining clean such a crucial environment.

Animal Rescue @ New Orleans, Louisiana-$261.01

Students interested in animals will be able to volunteer at the Animal Rescue of New Orleans. Members will take care of mistreated or disabled animals as well as assisting with tasks that aid in the day-to-day running of the animal shelter.

FULL Guadalupe Mountains @ Salt Flat, Texas-$237.57

Students interested in environmental conservation can volunteer with Guadalupe Mountain National Park and learn about how these parks are preserved and help park rangers with tasks like trail clearing. These volunteers will also get the opportunity to visit Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico to experience more of natures beauty!

Mid-South Food Bank @ Memphis, Tennessee-$222.76

Those interested in poverty issues will be able to volunteer with Mid-South Food Bank where they will take part in a variety of tasks from sorting food to feeding the hungry and really understanding how much one meal can mean.
