CHS Advanced Placement/Dual Credit U.S. History --Summer Assignment

Welcome to AP U.S. History (AKA APUSH) at Coronado High School! The purpose of this assignment is two fold. First, this assignment will allow us to get ahead on curriculum before the school year begins. Unlike on level U.S. History, we begin in the year 1491 and must be all the way through the 1990s prior to your U.S. EOC and APUSH exam in May of 2018. Therefore, we move very quickly and must get a head start. Second, this assignment will familiarize you with the level of rigor required in APUSH. This assignment must be completed before the third day of class next school year, which is August 30, 2017.

The Assignment:

You will need to read Chapters 1 AMSCO book. This chapterPDF will be posted on our CHS google classroom page.

The classroom code for Google Classroom is: 695v0—JOIN NOW!!!

You will need use your lubbockisd.net google account to login to Google Classroom. There will be minor bits of information that you will need over the summer listed on classroom as well.

You are welcome to take notes over these chapters and use them on your reading quiz. However, this is not a requirement. Below are questions that you need to be able to answer as you read. You also need to consider major events, people, and changes that occurred during the time periods being discussed in those chapters. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS ON PAPER.

Please keep in mind that you will need to be very specific in answering your quiz questions. You will need to use Proper Nouns, dates, event names, etc. in order to get credit for your answers.

Chapter 1 Questions to Consider:

1. What was Native American society like prior to the arrival of Europeans? Specifically, how did they adapt and transform their environments?

2. What factors led to Europe’s increased exploration and the discovery of the New World?

3. What are the effects of the Columbian Exchange on the New and Old World?

4. How would you describe the Spanish relationship with the Native Americans? Consider religion, gender roles, family roles, land usage and power structures of each and how they differ.

If you have any questions as you go through this assignment, please feel free to email me at over the summer. Please allow 1 week for a response given I do not check my emails regularly over the summer.
