2. Announcements/Reports as related to Advising:

  • Career Services- Loni
  • Working on six month follow-up of May 2010 graduates for placement data. Loni will be requesting the help of advisors and will send a list of those she is still trying to collect from.
  • Advisors requested a list of those placed along with the list of those we are still collecting from.
  • Starting with December 2010 graduates, salary and position title will be collected.
  • First email request for placement data of December grads will go out next week. These students will also be receiving a message within AccessPlus regarding this data collection.
  • Diversity/MLO-Denise
  • Safe Zone training will be available in January. More information to follow.
  • Connect 4 is going well. Denise has hired a practicum student for spring to help with programming.
  • Emails went out to high ability prospective students from current students to help with recruitment. The email seemed to be well received, there have been several responses.
  • ILEAD (ISU Leaders in Education and Diversity) – New student organization that Denise is advising and helping to get through the university approval process.

  • Expectations and roles of advisors were discussed. The committee suggested having Darlene prepare something for a Special Topic meeting.

  • New NACADA date will be sent out. Once there is a rough count of who would like to attend, there is a plan to ask for financial assistance to help advisors attend.
  • Classification and position description of advisors has been completed. Next step: To meet with the Deans of the colleges to share the results.
  • Advisor survey will be sent out soon. This survey is for advisors to fill out about the work that they do.
  • Next advising summit will be March 25th
  • The health center is no longer giving out doctor’s notes so they have asked instructors not to ask for them of students. Clarification was requested by the committee because of the concern regarding certain situations.
  • Grades will be posted on December 22nd

  • Event Management major/minor starts in January. The minor will be 15 credits and the code will be EVENT.

  • Corly Brooke and Dee Draper are retiring at semester end.

  • New minors have still not been approved.
