Christian Education 11

Church History

Mr. Dharmasetia—Rm. 208

Course Overview

The main focus Christian Education (Religion) 11 is a survey of the history of the Catholic Church from its institution in the A.D. 30s to as close to the present day as possible. It is a combination of history, theology, and philosophy.

Resources:

In this course, unlike other courses, there is no standard text book. Instead, we will use a variety of sources. The Bible will be used extensively in the first two months, and any other information will be gathered from handouts and PowerPoint. In order to keep up with the lessons, it is strongly recommended to print the notes that are available on line on my website. This website can be found at the following URL:

Organization:

Because you are in Grade 11, it will be assumed that you will be prepared for class; whether you are or not will be your responsibility. While you will be allowed to organize you binder in whatever way you wish, it is recommended that you have three (3) sections in your CE 11 binder: one for notes, one for handouts, and one in which you will keep your written assignments. Also, you will need a duotang and access to colouring pencils for your Church History Illustrated (CHI) assignments.

Most of the work will be assigned and completed in class. Remember that “any student who has an overall failure in Christian Education at the end of the school’s academic year will, in most cases, NOT be allowed to return to Notre Dame the following year” (ND Agenda Book p. 12).
