Choreography Assignment
- Students will be completing an assignment to choreograph their own dances in class that will be a minimum of 1:30 minutes long and a maximum of 2:30 minutes long.
- These dances will be performed for a final grade at their show on 5/17 & 5/18at PVIS.
- Dances can have a minimum of 1 dancer and a maximum of 8 dancers.
- Music and choreography must be school appropriate.
- Research of Choreography either through video technology or online to enhance final product
I’m looking forward to seeing all of your creative ideas. Please do not copy dances directly from any private dance studios or videos, as that does violate copyright laws. You can take steps and ideas from other choreography, but then please adapt it or “make it your own”. I will be providing costumes for your ballet and jazz dances, but you will need to provide a costume for your own original dance. It can be as simple as color coordinating a shirt with your jazz pants and leotard that you already have or as creative as you want within school dress codes.
Putting on a successful dance production requires a great deal of work and class participation. Students will be spending class time working on their dances as well as learning choreography for the opening medley. Therefore, if you are absent or do not participate in class for 5 or more days until our performance (this is 10% of the school days leading up to the show) you will be considered on “probation” and participation in the performance will be considered under review and up to Mrs. Palmer and the PVIS administration.
