Pre-K Information

George Washington School

Updated December 13, 2016

1)George Washington will continue to run a pre-school program for 3 year-olds and 4 year-olds for the 2017-2018 school year. It will be open to Edgewater residents only.

2)The number of classes and students accepted will be based upon available space.

3)All students wishing to be considered must register either on February 1 or February 3 at the specified times at George Washington School. All applications must be complete by the end of the day on February 3, 2017, to be considered for the lottery, including $800 deposit, approved proof of Edgewater residence, and approved proof of child birthdate. The cost of the pre-school will be $800 per month.

4)All students currently in the pre-k 3 classes will have first option at maintaining their spot for the 2017-2018 school year.

5)The October 1 age cutoff is in effect and there are no exceptions, following this framework:

Students born between October 1, 2013 – September 30, 2014 Eligible for pre-k 3

Students born between October 1, 2012 – September 30, 2013 Eligible for pre-k 4

Students born between October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012 Eligible for Kindergarten

6) After all applications are processed, a lottery will be held during the week of February 6. Time, date, and location will be made public via the school website.

7)At the lottery, all students with completed applications will be randomly drawn to form a priority list for the 2017-2018 school year. Everyone will be notified of their standing by February 17.

8)Those selected for a spot in the class will have to formally “accept” the spot to guarantee their child a spot in the class.

9)Those not selected for the class will be put on a waiting list in the order their child’s names were drawn at the lottery. As spots become available, students on the waiting list will be contacted in that order to fill the spots.

10)All families must follow the terms of the Tuition Agreement throughout the school year, or risk losing their spot.

11)If a child must leave school for an extended period (i.e. family trip), it is still expected that tuition will be paid for all months of the school year.

12)According to state law, all children in pre-k 3 and 4 must receive an influenza vaccine (“flu shot”) to attend pre-k by December 31, 2017.

13)Pre-K classes run from 8:15-2:40 daily and follow the regular school calendar. Bussing to and from school is available for most students, depending on address. The school does not provide supervision after 2:40, but there are a handful of organizations that can work with the school to supervise students after school until the evening hours.
