Choosing celebrities as the role model

It is common that many children and teenagers choose the celebrities as their role models. However, the daily action and behavior of the celebrities may deeply affect children and teenagers’ attitude. Therefore, it is significant to choose a suitable celebrity. I am going to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of choosing a celebrity as the role model in this essay.

Some people support that choosing celebrities as role models is beneficial for teenagers to accomplish their dreams. Most of the celebrities are famous because of their success in acting or singing, such as Angelina Jolie and Lady Gaga. Consequently, children and teenagers want to become famous, too. They may be not afraid of chasing their dreams of becoming an artist.

In contrast, not all the celebrities behave well. For instance, Miley Cyrus performed half naked on MTV while she is a famous Disney star. Many children love her a lot and try to follow her footprints. However, children and teenagers cannot distinguish the bad and good things among their celebrities’ behaviors. Therefore, it is risky for children and teenager to choose celebrities as role models.

On the other hand, celebrities have a tremendous influence on the young. They have the responsibility to act as role model. Since they are famous, every movement and even every word they say are influential. Some celebrities contribute a lot to the charity, such as, Emma Watson. Children and teenagers may follow their contribution work and learn from their virtue.

In spite of the fact that their good image of contribution to the charity is good for the development of children’s mental health, they may blindly follow what the celebrities done. For the most important case is the unhealthy message from the skinny super model. The wafer-thin frames of celebrities such as Hilary Duff sends unhealthy messages about the body size. Many young girls follow their celebrities and get underweight and extremely skinny. It is really unhealthy for children and teenagers to have such a thin body during adolescence.

Apart from this, celebrities deeply affect children’s attitude. For instance, Michael Jackson - he exudes confidence in everything. How he did his work deeply affected how the teenagers did their work. The spirit of fighting against sickness is worth for them to learn.

More importantly, parents have the bigger responsibility to be the role model of children. Since parents have the responsibility to teach their son and daughter to have a good value. Parents have got more time to stay with their children and have more chances to be the role model of their children.

In short, I think that it is inappropriate to choose a celebrity to be their role model due to the potential negative influence from the celebrities. Instead, I think parents have the biggest responsibility to teach their children.
