What is the Community Wellness Leadership Award?

The Community Wellness Leadership Award recognizes the efforts of elected community leaders to champion and support community wellness, with a focus on healthy eating and active living. This award will be presented as a part of the ChooseWell Healthy Community Awards.

Purpose

The purpose of the Community Wellness Leadership Award is to promote awareness of how local government leaders can influence community wellness, recognize those who champion wellness and health and foster dialogue about approaches to building community wellness.

Elected leaders have an important role to play to create community wellness. Many decisions and policies made by local governments directly and indirectly affect the health and wellbeing of community members. Local government leaders can influence the values and priorities that affect decisions, and they can be role models for healthy living, champions for healthy public policies, and directly support community-driven initiatives to improve wellness.
