Welcome to Lawley Medical Practice’s Newsletter. This will be the last Lawley Medical Practice Newsletter which will be released before we merge to become part of the Teldoc practice.In the future there will be a Teldoc Newsletter.
Mobile Text Service
We recently purchased a text messaging system which launched in October for appointment reminders for adults. Patients have been sent a text with the option to opt into this service. If you have not had a text, then please check with reception to ensure we have your correct mobile telephone number on your registration screen.
Please note: if you have asked for a call-back from a GP, your number is entered onto a different screen and will not have updated your registration record.
This mobile text service has reduced the number of did not attends with the GP, which is great news.
Waiting Room Chairs
Two new chairs have now arrived and are in place in the waiting room. These chairs are slightly higher and should aid any patient who has difficulty getting out of the other chairs in the waiting area..
ANP Debbie Taylor
Debbie is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, who can effectively work the same way as a GP and can review patients, prescribe and prepare referral letters etc. Debbie is in the practice Monday to Friday.
Friends and Family Test
The new text messaging service now gathers this information. This asks whether you would recommend our service to your friends and family.
Our results for 3 months from 14Nov16 to 17Feb17 were:
121 responses
110 responses were 5 or 4 stars – would recommend – 91%
4 responses were 3 stars – neither recommend or not – 3 %
7 responses were 2 or 1 stars – would not recommend – 6%
0 responses were 0 stars – would really not recommend – 0%
Thank you to everybody for your responses which were discussed in the most recent Patient Group Meeting. / GP Appointment System - Reminder
Please give a reason for the call: Our admin staff will continue to ask for a reason for any telephone call or appointment when you book these. This has been requested by the GP’s, so that they can be aware of why the appointment has been booked before seeing you, and so that the GP’s can assign clinical priority to telephone calls.
Practice News
Congratulations to Dr Shui who has now returned from maternity leave and has also been offered a partnership within Teldoc. .
Dr Kundu who has been covering Dr Shui’s maternity leave, will leave at the end of March and we would like to thank her for her work during this time.
Dr Hussain will also be leaving this Spring, following his assistance with the winter pressures and would like to thank him also.
Kaz Ali our senior receptionist has sadly recently left due to her moving out of area. Kaz had worked at the practice for just over 10 years and will be very much missed.
Nicki Mott our practice manager will also be sadly leaving us in June. Nicki has worked at the practice for over 9 years and will also be very much missed. We wish her luck in her new venture.
Patient Participation Group
We would very much like to thank our members of the Lawley PPG for their support and work over the past years, we have enjoyed working with you. From 1st April 2017 the PPG’s from Lawley, Trinity and Oakengates will be merging into one group. If you are interested in joining the group, then please speak to a member of the reception team/ask to speak to Natalie.
Practice Merger
As some of you will already be aware, and as noted in this newsletter/published on our website, Lawley Medical Practice will be merging with two other practices on 1st April 2017 and from this time will be part of the TELDOC practice. The two other practices that we are merging with are:
Oakengates (Limes Walk) Medical Practice
Trinity Medical Practice
The reason for this change is that General Practice is facing an unprecedented increase in patient demand and expectation, whilst at the same time is struggling to fill vacancies with various clinical staff. The result is that general practice across the whole country is struggling to continue working as they have always done, and are looking for ways to ensure sustainability for patient care. We believe that the creation of TELDOC will better suit the challenges facing General Practice.
The aim of the merger is to continue to provide general practice medical services to our patients, and also in time to provide additional services closer to your homes.
The formation of a larger practice has several potential patient advantages:
- your local practice remains open locally to continue to deliver care to you and your family
- it will give you more choice in where you can access the care you require
- more choice in when out of hours care is delivered
- it will be becoming a bigger practice enable the provision of additional services in time within the larger practice (such as a hospital consultant coming to the practice to conduct clinics, saving patients a visit to the hospital)
However, until all our computer databases are merged in a two step process in June and July, all Lawley patients will continue to be seen at Lawley.
There is also a plan to have one telephone number in the fullness of time, but the timeline for this is not yet confirmed.
