-Choose-An-Ending Mystery Book Report

Dear Students,

Today you were allowed to vote on your first book report for the school year. As a class we decided on completing the Choose-An-Ending Mystery book report. Below you will find the format and directions that need to be followed for this report. The mystery book you choose must be a good fit book, and it should be atleast 100 pages in length. Your book must be approved by me no later than Friday, Oct. 6thbefore you begin. In order to receive full credit, please follow the directions below and remember do not share the ending of your story with anyone, IT IS A SECRET!

You will use a manila folder (which I will provide for each student) that will provide your classmates with a summary to help them to choose an ending to your mystery. Here is what to include:

  1. On the outside cover you need to include the title, author, illustration (hand drawn), and your name
  2. On the inside left side you will need to glue in a one-page summary that should be at least 3 paragraphs in length. You may neatly hand write or type the summary. In the summary you should introduce the main characters (detective, witnesses suspects), the setting, the mystery, and describe the plot (the main events of the mystery) including clues to help solve the mystery in an interesting way that will capture the reader’s attention. Remember, your summary SHOULD NOT TELL YOUR READER THE ENDING OR WHO DID IT!
  3. On the inside right side you will need to provide 3 separate endings (labeled A, B, and C) one of which is the REAL ending and two convincing alternative endings that you have made up on your own. Each ending should be no shorter or longer than a paragraph (4-7 sentences).
  4. On the back outside cover paste the rubric I have provided and complete the self-rating evaluation.

This book report is due on Monday, Oct. 3oth. On this day, you will read your summary and the 3 possible answers directly to the class. You will then take a silent vote and record them. We will use this vote to see who was the most successful at “stumping” their classmates.

Sincerely,

Miss Pender
