SUBJECT / ASSIGNMENT
ENGLISH / BASED ON THE NOVEL, “LIFE OF PI” BY YANN MARTEL
Read the book “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel. Based on the reading of the book, do the following activity:
Design a print campaign to publicize the book Life of Pi. You must create, and present at least three separate posters, each of which should focus on a different major element of the story. Be sure to include a minimum of 3 separate, original posters. The posters must be designed on A3-sized white/coloured sheets. It is important that each poster must:
 reflect a different element of the story.
 convey themes and images from the story.
 have a paragraph on the reverse side of the poster explaining what inspired you to design it.
NOTE: ALSO ENJOY THE MOVIE DURING THE VACATIONS

MATHS / 1 “Life of Pi” talks about various stages of life of a boy named Pi. He struggles throughout his life and values its importance. Pi was stuck in a boat .He, later, made some changes in the boat to be able to survive. On an A4 sheet ,design a life saver boat for yourself and identify the number of line segments and angles used for making the boat .Also identify the relation between the angles made between parallel /non parallel lines.(Refer to Chapter6: Lines and Angles.)
2. Based on this novel, prepare a questionnaire(10 questions) to survey 10 people in your locality regarding their daily routine and application of mathematical concepts learnt in their school days in their routine. Collect the data organize it in form of frequency distribution table (as shown below) and then represent the same graphically using your knowledge of statistics.
Mathematical Concept / Number of people
Ratio&Proportion
Geometry
Mensuration
Profit and loss
Lines and Angles
Algebra
Trignometry
Co-ordinate Geometry.
Guidelines for preparing the project report (hand written):
1.  Use A-4 size papers and arrange them systematically.
2.  Use Graph Paper for representation of data if required.
3.  Avoid using plastic folders and files.
Assessment criteria for project:
1.  Content (Relevance, data collection and their representation)
2.  Accuracy
3.  Overall presentation of work
4.  Punctuality
Date of submission: 10th to 17th June, 2015.
SCIENCE / Select any one project from the following list and do as per the directions.
LIST OF PROJECTS
1.  / To study the importance, preparation and usage of bio- insecticides and pesticides.
2.  / Sir Issac Newton (1642-1727) was one of the greatest scientists who ever lived. He was a great mathematician and physicist. Many theories of modern science are based on laws that he discovered. Find out more about the life and work of Newton and prepare a report on the same.
3.  / Matter can be physically classified into solid, liquid and gas. Now scientists are talking of five states of matter: solid, liquid, gas, plasma and Bose- Einstein Condensate. Find out information about plasma and Bose- Einstein Condensate states of matter and prepare a report on the same.
4.  / Diffusion is intermingling of substances by the natural movement of their particles. The phenomenon is important for gaseous exchange in plants and animals. However, sometimes diffusion may be harmful. Find out the details of any two incidents where diffusion proved disastrous. (Take reference of gas tragedies and nuclear accidents).
5.  / (a)  Give a general description of bone and ligament and their functions.
(b)  Collect a record of bone/ ligament injuries of any two persons.
(c)  Mention the first- aid that you can give to a person in above cases.
(d)  Suggest diet for the patient of bone or ligament injury.
6.  / Galileo Galilei (1564- 1642) was one of the greatest scientists who ever lived. He was a great mathematician and natural philosopher. He observed the theory of motion and through his study of inclined planes and pendulum, formulated the correct law for uniformly accelerated objects that the distance the object moves is proportional to the square of time taken. Find out more about the life and work of Galileo and prepare a report on the same.
Guidelines for preparing the project report (hand written):
1.  Use A-4 size papers and arrange them systematically.
2.  The project report should essentially contain following pages-
(a)  Cover page consisting Name of the school, session, subject, topic, FA- 1(Individual activity), submitted by______, class & section and submitted to Science Department.
(b)  Acknowledgement
(c)  Table of contents/ index
(d)  Content including introduction and conclusion.
3.  Pictures should be pasted at proper places with the related content.
4.  Headings must be in black ink and rest of the information in blue ink.
5.  Tabulate the data wherever possible.
6.  Avoid using plastic folders and files.
Assessment criteria for project:
1.  Content (Relevance, data collection and pictures)
2.  Conclusion
3.  Overall presentation of work
4.  Punctuality
Date of submission: 10th to 17th June, 2015.
