Junior Beta Club!

Purpose: To promote scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship through community service.

Who is eligible: All 7th and 8th grade students who have all of the following: All A’s and B’s on your final report card from last year, no discipline referrals, the ability to be a positive role model, a record of active participation in class daily, academic responsibility (i.e. you complete all assignments in a timely fashion), respect for all students and staff, a positive attitude and a caring attitude toward others, worthy moral and ethical character, willingness to complete service projects.

Meeting times: Meetings will be held on the first Friday of every month at 8:00 a.m. in the Media Center. Other meetings may be called as necessary and voluntary group service projects may require some other time after school, possibly on a weekend if you choose to participate in an activity. Potential members: You must complete an application along with a personal statement and obtain three teacher recommendations. SEE NEXT PAGE FOR MORE DETAILS. If recommended and accepted, you will receive an invitation to join the CHMS Junior Beta Club. An induction ceremony will be held at a later date, but you can and should attend the October 3rd meeting if you are accepted. You will be notified through your homeroom by September 26, 2014. MEMBERSHIP WILL BE OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY. There is a one-time $25.00 membership fee to be paid once you are accepted via check made out to CHMS. If accepted, please bring the check to the first meeting on Friday, October 3, 2014. Once you are a member of the CHMS chapter, you are always a member at CHMS. You are required to perform 20 hours of community service per school year and to provide evidence of this throughout the year. You must also maintain an A/B average with no C’s on the final report card.

Our Vision: The National Beta Club, a student-centered organization, continually develops and nurtures individuals by providing opportunities and experiences enabling them to demonstrate the ideals of character, achievement, service, and leadership in a global community.

Application for Membership to the CHMS Junior Beta Club

Purpose: The purpose of this organization shall be to promote scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship at Community House Middle School.

Membership: The membership of this organization shall be made up of Community House Middle School students who, because of their worthy character, high intellect, creditable achievement, and commendable attitude, have been approved for membership by the Beta Club sponsors and the Principal of Community House Middle School.

Potential Members: Please complete this form and return it, along with your attached paragraph telling why you wish to join Beta Club and what you will contribute as an active member. You are also required to obtain three current teacher recommendations. A recommendation form is attached. You may either ask academic or elective teachers for a recommendation. When complete, your recommendation form should be returned to the envelope outside Ms. Drake’s room, C12 no later than Friday, September 26, 2014.

If you are selected, you will receive additional information about the one-time membership fee ($25). Scholarships are available upon request.
