Soprano

Chinese soprano Hui He has performed in all the great theatres of the world including the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Teatro Liceo in Barcelona, the Deutsch Oper in Berlin, the Arena di Verona and the Chicago Lyric Opera among others.

She burst onto the international scene in 2003 in the title role of Madama Butterfly at the Opera de Bordeaux.

Engagements for the current 2014-2015 have included Tosca in Chicago, Seville and Palermo, Aida in Beijing and at the Rome Opera, Madama Butterfly in Vienna, Oslo and at the Deutsch Oper in Berlin and Il Trovatore at the Orange. She also appeared in Oman on tour with the Deutsch Oper in the title role of Manon Lescaut.

For the 2013-2014 season, Hui He appeared in Aida at La Scala, in the title role of La Gioconda in Berlin, as Madama Butterfly at the Metropolitan Opera, in Un ballo in maschera at the Arena di Verona and in Il Trovatore in Sao Paulo.

Engagements for the 2015/2016 season include Il Trovatore at the Paris Opera, Madama Butterfly in Munich, Tosca in Dresden and her first performances of La Forza del destino in Wiesbaden.

Born in China's old imperial capital, Xi'an, she completed her musical studies and won the second prize in the "Operalia" competition in 2000. In 2001 she won first prize in the "Voci Verdiane" Competition in Busseto and made her Italian stage debut in 2002 as Tosca at the Teatro Regio in Parma.

Other significant engagements have included Tosca in concert with Lorin Maazel and the New York Philharmonic, Stiffelio at the Vienna State Opera, Tosca at La Scala and Aida at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and with the Chicago Lyric Opera.

She is a favorite artist at the Arena di Verona where she appears every season.

With the Fondazione Arena, she debuted at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona in 2002, singing the role of Amelia in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera.

She then debuted at the Arena di Verona in 2005 as Liù in Puccini’s Turandot, revived in 2009; in 2006 and 2008 she took part in Puccini’s Tosca and in 2010 she was Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly. In 2007 and from 2009 to 2014 she sang the title role in Aida. In 2013 she took part in Verdi’s works Il Trovatore and Messa da Requiem and in a Gala Verdi, in 2014 she returns as Amelia in Un ballo in maschera.

She returns for the 2015 Opera Festival in the title role for Aida and Tosca.


ELENA ROSSI

Soprano

Born in Reggio Emilia, Elena Rossi received her musical education at the Conservatory in her native town. She won several competitions and made her debut 1998 in L’Elisir d’amore at the Teatro Bonci in Cesena. Subsequently, she performed the main parts of several productions at the Festival dell’Operetta in Trieste : La Contessa Maritza, lo Zingaro Barone, Orfeo all’Inferno, Scugnizza, Il paese dei Campanelli, Cin ci la, La duchessa di Chicago. In 2004 she sang in the role of ‘Anne’ in The Rake’s Progress (Stravinskij) in Trieste. In the same year, she debuted in the role of Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa and again at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo and at the festival of Cesky Krumlov in Praga.

In 2005 she debuted in the role of Violetta Valery in La Traviata, in Murcia and Jerez de la Frontera. Since then she has often performed this role and always with great success.

In 2007 she performed in several operas directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi, La Traviata, : Les Mamelles de Tirésias (Macerata and Praga), Il Flauto magico (Macerata), La Vedova Scaltra (Venezia), Thaïs (Venezia).

In the 2010/2011 season she performed on tour with Andrea Bocelli in the Unites States, Asia, Middle East and debuted in the role of Gilda in Rigoletto at the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca, the Teatro Coccia in Novara and the Teatro Verdi in Pisa. In 2012 she debuted in the role of Mimì in La Bohème and Micaela in Carmen in Novara and sang in ‘Candide’ in Rome.

In 2014 she sang in Don Giovanni in Palermo, and due to her change of repertoire in favour of more dramatic roles, in Tosca at the Summer Opera Festival in Taormina, Norma in Macao, Tosca in Palermo. Future engagements include Otello in Sao Paolo, Madama Butterfly in Tel Aviv, Norma a Siracusa, Tosca in Verona, La Rondine in Genova, Die lustige Witwe in Peking, Madama Butterfly in Palermo, Manon Lescaut in Bukarest, Palermo and Liège.

At the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona she debuted in 2008 as Bombon in Carlo Lombardo and Virgilio Ranzato’s Paese dei Campanelli.

At the Arena di Verona she debuted nel 2004 in the role of Annina in La Traviata; in 2013 she sang in the Centennial edition of Aida directed by La Fura dels Baus.

She returns for the 2015 Opera Festival in the title role of Tosca.
