The Joint Section of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine of Rush University Children's Hospital and the John H. Stroger Children's Hospital of Cook County in Chicago are recruiting a Joint Chief of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine to lead its faculty of 10.

The Rush PICU is an 18 bed multidisciplinary and cardio-thoracic ICU, with an average daily census approximately 50% cardiac supported by the 3rd busiest cardiac surgical program in the area. The Rush PICU has an active ELSO Center of Excellence ECMO program that is supported by both cardio-thoracic and pediatric surgery. The Stroger PICU consists of 10 beds and supports very active pediatric Level I trauma and burn services. Both units are major referral centers for the metropolitan Chicago and its surrounding area.

Clinical responsibilities include patient care, medical student and resident education, administrative and scholarly pursuits. Each hospital houses an up-to-date PICU with a combined total of 30 PICU/Intermediate beds. The hospitals are adjacent to each other in the Illinois Medical District, 2 miles west of downtown Chicago. The combined services provide significant multidisciplinary clinical exposure to the entire spectrum of critical illness in children.

Leadership responsibilities include faculty development of a team of physicians with broad and diverse areas of interest, including cardiac critical care, palliative care, disaster preparedness, medical education, administration, ethics, and quality and safety. Prior experience with program growth is desired and individuals with demonstrated administrative, operational, financial and communication skills will have opportunities for additional career growth.

Ideal candidates will be an established pediatric intensivist, have proven leadership skills and eligible for a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor level or above. While special consideration will be given to candidates with additional cardiac training/experience,the successful candidate will be able to coordinate pediatric critical care medicine, including cardiac, trauma and burn services at respective institutions, and have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and research. Resources exist to support research activities and clinical growth in partnership with multiple service lines.

Qualified candidates must have completed an approved pediatric critical care medicine fellowship program and be Board Certified in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics.
