Biography

J. Michael Kramer, MD, is the Chief Medical Information Officer with Trinity Health, having accepted this newly created position in August 2005. As Trinity’s CMIO, Dr. Kramer is responsible for supporting clinical applications and processes of care. These activities include development of corporate physician engagement plans for Project Genesis (PG), strategic planning for the complete electronic medical record, support of clinical process transformation and improvement, evaluation of emerging technology, and adoption of informatics standards. Dr. Kramer supports Project Genesis during rollout and post go-live activities. He leads many of the PG configuration committees including the forms, rules, and order set groups. As CMIO, he is the lead for implementing systems to assist clinicians measuring quality and leveraging data driven tools to inform and guide patient care. In all these activities, Dr. Kramer represents the needs and requirements of the clinical community and promotes the use of appropriate information technology in the clinical setting.

Dr. Kramer earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics. Dr. Kramer brings to his new role as CMIO over a decade of information systems experience having provided leadership and expertise to clinical groups at the University of Michigan (U of M). His previous role was clinical assistant professor at the U of M Canton Health Center. He also practiced at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center along with the Huron Valley Hospitalists, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital (SJMH), and as an urgent care physician with the Emergency Physicians Medical Group, also at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

CareWeb is the main clinical system at U of M that Dr. Kramer helped develop and deploy. He also was involved in the implementation of the inpatient order entry system at U of M, as well as a similar deployment at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. He was the physician lead for Electronic Medical Records Management, Mobile Computing, Inpatient Order Entry and Clinical Systems Integration. His expertise includes a number of selected professional works with grants, presentations, papers and abstracts.
