Necessary Supplies: 1 to 2 inch binder with pockets (for Science only, cannot use for anything else) filled with notebook paper - (daily notes, bell-ringers, lab reports, and activities stay in here) * These MAY be left in room unless to take home to study*

 Notebook paper

 Blue or Black pen for activities

 Mechanical #2 pencils for tests ( if a wooden #2 pencil / Hand-held pencil sharpener with case/lid (to catch pencil shavings)

 Highlighters and calculators not required but recommended

The following items can be left at home until needed. Example: If we have a project coming up, I will tell you to work on it at home with your supplies or if we work on it in class, you may bring these supplies then:

Multi-colored highlighters - Post-It Notes (any color) - Markers/Colored pencils/Crayons - Pencils (#2 only & no mechanical pencils) Hand-held pencil sharpener with case/lid (to catch pencil shavings) Index cards

COMPREHENSIVE EXAMS. They will be given at the end of each quarter and semester. Also there will be chapter tests and weekly quizzes.

Expectations: Be Respectful. Be Honest. Be Responsible. Be Prepared.

- Food and drink are not allowed in the classroom! NO CANDY OR GUM! Detention will be awarded.

- Notebook, textbook, and writing instruments are expected daily.

- Do not distract others by talking.

- Students are expected to complete all assignments on time.

- Uniform policy is strictly followed.

- If students are absent, it is their responsibility to go to the “Absent Wall” to receive their missed work.

Procedures:

- Find your seat and begin writing your response to the Bellringer in your Science Journal. (Helpful hint: immediately doing this without reminders will improve your chances of earning participation points)

- During class, you may not leave your seat for any reason without permission to do so.

- Do not talk when I am talking.

- You must be in your seat when the bell rings. Otherwise, you are tardy.

- Absolutely no use of any electronic devices unless instructed by me for interactive quiz reviews. I will let you know ahead of time.

Tardy: You are late to class if you sit down after the bell has rung. I expect you to be in your seat, working on your Bellringer or reading the section for the day when the bell rings.

- I will enforce school policies regarding tardiness.

- If you miss a quiz that was given when you were tardy, you will not be permitted to make it up unless the tardy is excused.

Unexcused Absences: If you are not excused, you will receive no credit for all work done on or due the day you miss.

Make up policy: Strictly follow school’s policy.

Grading:

- Average of class activities and labs will count for 40% of final grade.

- Average of tests, projects, and presentations will count for 60% of final grade.

Journal Grading:

- All entries will be organized by date. Loose paper must be secured by glue or tape in order.

- ALL papers generated in class must be titled and completed.

Bellringers: You must have the daily journal entries answered in your notebook.

- the journal entry is dated, answers are in FULL SENTENCES, the answer is correct or if it was incorrect, you have fixed it.

Notes: You will be required to keep your notes.

- Notes are to be complete with thorough explanations.

Assignments and labs:

- 10 points possible per section: You have all requested assignments/labs

- If less than ½, you will not receive full credit.

EXPECTATIONS

This class will move fast and will contain nightly homework of about 25-30 minutes – mostly reading with note taking. ANY missed work is your responsibility to find out, retrieve, or possibly make-up at the teacher’s convenience. Attendance in all discussions and activities is strongly advised since you can’t truly understand if you are not there to obtain the information. You are still responsible for keeping up with all work since you will receive a monthly agenda outlining each topic unit we will cover! Class will begin on time and last all period. Tardiness is unacceptable and will require a note from previous class or the office for admittance – NO exceptions!

TESTS – 40%

LAB WRITE-UPS/JUSTIFICATIONS – 15%

RESEARCH PROJECT/VIDEO PRODUCTIONS – 10%

QUIZZES/SYNTTHESIS WRITINGS – 35%
