Chemistry Lab Safety Contract

In chemistry, you will be doing hands-on labs which require the use of hazardous chemicals and open flame. To ensure a safe classroom, these rules must be followed at all times. This contract must be read and signed by both you and your parent before you may participate in any labs.

  1. No playing or fooling around in the lab.
  1. Follow all instructions carefully.
  1. Wear protective clothing and safety goggles and aprons when needed.
  1. Do not remove lab materials such as chemicals, glass containers, and lab equipment from the lab stations.
  1. All chemicals are to be considered dangerous. Do not touch, taste, smell any materials unless instructed by the teacher.
  1. Dispose of all chemicals properly. Do not pour chemicals in sinks or trash bins.
  1. Never leave a flame unattended.
  1. If chemicals get in the eye or skin of you or your lab partner, wash with water immediately and call the teacher.
  1. Call the teacher immediately if there is any problem at the lab station. This means if any chemicals spill, any glass is broken, you or your lab partner are hurt, or you have any question about how to use the lab materials.
  1. Do not leave the lab stations until dismissed by the teacher. The teacher will dismiss the lab station when it is clean and safe.

I realize that I must obey these rules for my own safety and the safety of my fellow students and teachers. I will cooperate with my teacher and fellow students to maintain a safe environment. I am aware that if I violate any part of this safety contract, I may be removed from the laboratory and receive detention, a failing grade, and possibly be dismissed from the course.
