Town & Village of Sherman Highway Facility Tour / Tour – The County Planning Board travelled across into the Village of Sherman to tour the combined highway facility for the Town and Village of Sherman. The Sherman shop is a six-bay metal building that was prefabricated. The shop size is 60 X 120 with spray foam insulation and a parts and office space that was built by the highway crew. The estimated cost was $350,000 with the combined highway crews only performing site prep. Ice and snow slippage from the roof was the only major issue reported but this has been minimized with the installation of the foam insulation.
County Sherman Highway Facility Tour / Tour – Mr. Spanos provided a tour of the County’s Sherman Shop facility. It was evident that while the building is structurally sound, it has functional limitations due to both the height of the bays and the depth of the bays. The original building was built in the 1930’s and no longer allows a truck with a plow to be pulled into a bay.
Planning Board members, while seeing a need to create a new shop on site, questioned Mr. Spanos in regards to the engineering cost associated with the project and the overall cost in comparison to the two other facilities they had toured. Mr. Spanos stated that the County facility has to be inspected by the Code Enforcement Division Engineer from Buffalo. Meeting those requirements often drives the cost up in comparison to what a local town may have to meet. The Board thanked Mr. Spanos and adjourned.
Zoning Referral Log / The October Zoning Log was reviewed by the Board. John Hamels raised questions in regards to the gravel pit proposal in the Town of Gerry. Don McCord informed him that staff also had concerns and sere working with the Town and the developer to resolve sight distances at Route 60 and debris being carried onto the roadway. On a motion by John Hamels, with a second by John Penhollow, the October Zoning Log was unanimously approved.
