More ‘A’s in Gadsden

Chattahoochee Elementary and Havana Middle Earn First A’s in History

The 2014 school grades report is in and it’s one that everyone in the community can be proud of!! The Gadsden County School District is in line to have more schools earn the high performing status of ‘A’ or ‘B’.

The most noteworthy A’s earned in 2014 were pinnacle moments for two local schools. For the second consecutive year, Chattahoochee Elementary received historical news. The school earned its first ever B in 2013 under the watchful leadership of Principal Valencia Denson and in 2014 the school has earned its first ‘A’!! Havana Middle School also earned its first ‘A’ with Principal Delshauna Jackson at the helm. “This is also the first secondary school in the district to earn an ‘A’ and I am genuinely excited about what this means for the future of our secondary schools” stated Superintendent James. Gadsden Elementary Magnet earned an ‘A’ for the tenth consecutive year in a row. Gretna Elementary rounded out the top schools with a grade of ‘B’.

The district has seen a steady increase in ‘A’ schools from three in 2012 to four in 2013 and an anticipated 5 in 2014. Crossroad and Stewart Street, who have consistently earned A’s, are receiving a quality control review to ensure no testing anomalies existed. Shanks Middle also received an ‘I’ due to the state review, however district officials expect grades to be released before the end of July. “Stewart Street, Crossroad and Shanks are great schools with dynamic principals, dedicated teachers and brilliant students. We applaud the efforts of the Florida Department of Education to ensure all results are valid and error free. We invite our community to come and see just what is making our schools succeed. These grades are reflective of the hard work of teachers, students and administrators”, stated James.

“It wasn’t an overnight turnaround. There has been a lot of sweat and tears from our faculties and staffs, but most importantly from our students and their parents. We have invested in the belief that NO EXCUSES will be accepted and we have worked every day to ensure every child was learning. Ten years later, we can say that we are on the right path” remarked Superintendent James on Friday.
