Motions
- Motion to host CIO of the Year awards independently next year – Tabled for further discussion and review.
- Motion to increase non-member event fees to $75 in order to ensure that there is a financial incentive to join. Motion is tabled pending review of event participation data. We will compare attendance logs to identify trends of members vs. non-members to identify any issues warranting an increase in non-member event fees. September 5th is a member-only field trip so we have some time to evaluate and address.

Business Journal CIO of the Year Awards
Updates and Table Seating - We do have a table for SIM, if you do want to sit need to submit by 5th of July Please submit names as soon as possible. We get on stage at 12:43, have 3 minutes to present. A motion was made to host CIO of the Year awards independently next year. We will learn from this event and represent SIM well, but our overall involvement this year is low.
- Business Journal will likely continue to hold event, so plans for next year will need to be planned after further review.
- We should push back on Journal to increase event involvementof Charlotte SIM in terms of involvement and recognition of role.
- Possibly make closing remarks.
- Send reminder email to SIM members about event to generate more attendance
- Put out SIM Charlotte brochures? – Jeff said that we do want to do this and do have a table option for the event.
- Check into getting a discount for SIM members for next event
- Possibly invite potential members to fill any empty seats at SIM table
September 5 Meeting and Additional Regional Meeting Plans
- Catering plans being finalized
- Need to follow-up with Clear Edge partners to check into meeting sponsorship
- Sponsorship explanation - $2,500 fee, entitles the sponsor company to bring company members and a presentation company overview
- Possibly offer different levels of sponsorship to encourage more involvement.
- Will approach alternate vendor sponsor options and attempt to book future meetings
- Nikhil has expressed interest in hosting February meeting at a Synders-Lance location
Membership Update
We are preparing for a big push in July due to membership timeframes. Have a number of potential members who are pending the July membership timeframe starting next week. We May hold off communications until after July 4th weekend to avoid emails getting buried.
- What has worked – send out a linked-in invitation and has attracted interest.
- Organizations of Interest - Lowes and Time Warner, Springs Global, Greg Archer
- Discussed potential member prospects
- Get sense that many know us but have not joined, big opportunity to recruit those contacts
Financial Update
- Had $2,000 more in expenses than we did in income.
- No reason to turn events into fund raising events unless there is a plan for that money
- Donated $16,510 due to fund balance and endowment funding
- Received a check for $9,000 from PEM partners for CIO Forum
- Current balance of $16,742 + $9,000; almost $26,000which is more than at start of year.
- Pay attention to catering, get enough members through the doors at events, and we hold our own.
- Right now $7000 ahead on income from Q1 year to year comparison
- Overall very sound with flexibility to consider event fee adjustments
Surpluses
- Could we spend on marketing for SIM Charlotte?
- Could we get a well-known speaker to attract outsiders?
- Is there an opportunity to bring different kind of workshops for professional development reasons?
Things to Think about - Jeff
- Outreach – establish an outreach person / document accomplishments / put initiatives on SIMNet
- Question of where do we build going forward to either expand brand, membership, or outreach
- Influence every SIM member to engage in some way around outreach
- Need to document what we are already doing – please send your outreach accomplishments to Jeff so he can disseminate
- Value proposition – Reflect back on why you joined SIM
- Field is getting more crowded; we need to determine how we will continue to be a value to members and community and how to express those values.
A Proposal was made to make the next meeting than one hour to allow for more in-depth conversation on these topics.
